Model, activist, citizen of the world. Leila Ndabirabe, who grew up in Burundi and Belgium, likes to think of herself as being all three in one. In 2000, Leila and her family fled a violent civil war in their home country of Burundi. At first, arriving in Belgium, Leila struggled to fit in in her new country, and reconcile her previous dreams of what Europe would be like with her new reality. But as she grew, both in age and in confidence, she learned to make the most of her opportunities; and now, as a successful model, she has endeavored to give back as much as she can to help future generations of young Burundian women. She has partnered with Marguerite Barankitse of the Maison Shalom to support Burundian refugees in Rwanda, helping them to achieve their dreams of education and a brighter future.
